Objective: To investigate the value of nerve conduction velocity (NCV) in the diagnosis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and the clinical features of DPN. Methods: The NCV test results and clinical manifestations in 12 6 diabetic patients were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The abnormal rate of NCV in diabetic patients was 63.5%, and 107% of the whole groups were unilateral abnormalities. The coincidence rates of clinical symptoms and signs with those of NCV were 52.4% and 66.7% respectively. There were 52.2% and 394% of NCV abnormalities in asymptomatic and signs patients respectively. Conclusion: The DPN is invisible and the NCV test provides direct and objective evidence for the diagnosis of this disease. DPN onset of asymmetry, if necessary, both sides of the test, so as to avoid missed diagnosis
