开封市农林科学研究所西瓜专业所选育的豫西瓜9号（原开杂12号）具有中熟、果大、高产、抗病、品质优和耐贮运等特点。经6年的品种比较试验、区域试验、生产试验及试种示范，证明豫西瓜9号产量、品质、抗逆性均超过丰收1、2号及新红宝等，是目前我国较理想的中熟西瓜栽培品种之一。1999年4月通过河南省农作物品种审定委员会审定并命名为“豫西瓜9号”。

In April 1999, it passed the Henan Crop Variety Approval Committee and named it “Henan Watermelon No. 9”.
