In order to investigate the mechanism of the action of anti-atherogenic treatment of kelp, the effect of kelp on lipid metabolism disorder was observed in a rat model of experimental hyperlipidemia. The results showed that kelp can significantly increase the serum lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) activity in experimental hyperlipidemic rats, making serum high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) especially HDL 2 - C levels increase, and total cholesterol (TC) levels decrease. At the same time, it can reduce the lipid peroxidation (LPO) content in experimental hyperlipidemic rats, suggesting that Kumbu can improve LCAT activity, promote the conversion of HDL_3-C to HDL_2-C, and accelerate the elimination of cholesterol. Disturbance of lipid metabolism, but also enhance the body’s anti-lipid peroxidation. These effects are beneficial to the formation and development of anti-arteriosclerosis.
