Mice were injected intramuscularly with estradiol benzoate 7 days prior to irradiation, according to myeloid progenitor cells (CFU-D), endogenous splenic nodules (CFU-S), and myeloid cell division index and chromosome aberration rate The changes were explored to investigate its effect on hematopoietic function in irradiated mice. In the early post-irradiation period, regardless of the number of CFU-D or chromosomal aberrations, there was no difference between the drug and the control group, but on the 3rd, 5th, and 9th days after irradiation, the CFU-D was administered to the administration group. The rate was significantly higher than that of the control group without medication. Moreover, the bone marrow cell division index was also higher in the 3 to 5 days after irradiation than in the control group. The above results suggest that the radiation protection effect of estradiol benzoate is not mainly to reduce the radiation damage of hematopoietic stem cells, but to promote the proliferation of residual stem cells.
