Thirty adult female Wistar rats weighing 240 ± 26.5g were equally divided into three groups Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ. Each group of proteins accounted for 40%, 20% and 8% of feed, respectively. The animals were kept for 43 days (21 days before conception) to observe the effects of protein levels in the diet on brain development in embryonic rats. The results showed that the body weight and brain weight of the newborn rats were the heaviest in group Ⅰ, 6.95g and 240.9mg, respectively, followed by those of group Ⅱ 6.57g and 237.8mg, the lightest ones in group Ⅲ were 5 and 5 respectively. 62g and 210.9mg. The body weight of each group was significantly different (P <0.01), and the brain weight of group Ⅲ was significantly lower than that of group Ⅰ and Ⅱ (P <0.01). The protein contents of brain in each group were 10.03mg, 9.09mg and 7.46mg (P <0.01 or <0.05), and the brain DNA and RNA levels and the RNA content in each g brain were the highest in group Ⅰ , Ⅲ group was significantly lower than the other two groups. Explain that different protein levels have some effect on brain growth and development in rat embryonic stage.
