Streptomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that acts mainly on 16s RNA, interfering with protein translation and inhibiting protein synthesis. The genes related to streptomycin resistance have been confirmed to be mainly the rpsL gene encoding ribosomal protein S12 and the rrs gene encoding 16sRNA.
