政治活动与日常活动相比有着很大不同,政治活动的特殊性需要特定的伦理思考。“脏手”,即按日常道德标准看来是不正当的政治行为,可能被视为政治伦理的特殊组成部分。“脏手”可以看作是僭越最严肃的道德的政治理由,也可视为伦理的内部分裂。通过伦理原则的贯通,可以调和政治与普通伦理的鲜明冲突。我们不能过于迁就道德悬置产生的不正当政治行为,因为它关系到道德品格,并且在过于松弛的道德规范下产生的政策可能出现的严重后果。政治家如果经常忽略道德要求,道德要求的拥护者就有可能无视政治要求。与“脏手”有关的问题还有“多手”、“无手”、“空手”等等。
Political activities are very different from daily activities, and the particularity of political activities requires specific ethical thinking. “Dirty hands,” which appear to be perverse political behavior based on everyday moral standards, may be considered as a special part of political ethics. “Dirty hands” can be seen as the most serious moral political reasons, but also as internal divisions of ethics. Through the linking of ethical principles, we can reconcile the sharp conflict between politics and ordinary ethics. We can not over-ride on the improper political behavior created by moral suspensions because it relates to moral character and the possible consequences of policies that are created under too-lax moral norms. If politicians often ignore moral demands, advocates of moral demands may ignore political demands. There are also “many hands”, “no hands”, “empty hands” and so on related to “dirty hands”.
