The comprador gentry in Shanghai had secretly “mercantile ” a foreign mercenary in 1860, and it was Shanghai’s “Wall Warlords” in the history of modern China. Wal-Mart, the head of the “Foreign Gun Corps,” once made a diametrically opposite assessment on the history of China and the United States: the former was notoriously infamous and the latter was regarded as “mythical heroes.” In fact, more importantly, his attempt to create China’s first modern army has actually shortened the distance between the East and the West. His whirlwind blowing on Shanghai Beach has profoundly hit the Chinese military culture Mentality.
