Farmer lungs are an extrinsic alveolar inflammation caused by inhalation of moldy plant dust containing the thermophilic actinomycete spores. Etiology and pathogenesis In the early 1930s, some people in the UK found that people who raised dairy cows had the disease caused by inhalation of moldy hay dust, but the cause was not clear at the time. By the 1960s, Pepys et al. Found that precipitated antibodies against moldy hay fever antigens were found in the patient’s serum and the pathogen was confirmed to be the actinomycetemophilic spores of moldy hay, mainly Micropolyspora Faeni, And Thermoactinomyces Vulgaris.
