一、乌海地区煤炭资源丰富,已查明储量达四十五亿吨之多.自一九五八年开发以来,大井群年产商品煤六百多万吨,已成为内蒙古自治区西部边陲重要煤炭工业基地.对发展内蒙西部地区经济和宁县东部地区煤炭能源的供应,发挥了重要作用.同时,在各个煤田大井开发的边角地带,煤层浅、地质稳定、水火瓦斯不大,这就为群众办矿提供了得天独厚的有利资源条件.近年来在“有水快流,群众办矿”的方针指导下,乌海地区群众办矿发展很快,小煤窑已是星罗棋布、生机勃勃.据初步统计小煤窑已有250多个,年产煤200多万吨,对于缓解煤炭供应紧张,搞活乌海地区经济,开辟群众生产致富门路,发挥了积极效能.
