同安,是厦门经济特区的唯一辖县,也是我国东南沿海的开放县。1981年10月厦门经济特区创办之后,由于特区建设的迅速发展并逐步向郊县延伸,40多万同安人为改变素以农业经济为主的贫穷、落后面貌,带着一身泥土的气息,一脑子新旧交错的观念,纷纷涌进了改革开放的潮头。至1991年底,全县国民生产总值达9.07亿元,工农业总产值达13.77亿元,分别比1978年增长6.4倍和6.8倍;全县财政收入达5832万元,农民人均收入达1043元,分别比1978年增长6.28倍和9.3倍。这一连串的数字不容置疑地表明:这是同安亘古以来未曾出现过的经济发展速度。
