红军长征途中,不少女同志得了各种各样的妇女病,那些刚出生的婴儿,也因环境所迫,不得不送给当地群众抚养。作为一名红军医生,傅连暲倍感心痛。到达陕北后,慢慢也汇聚了一些小孩,其中有的就是傅连暲亲手接生的。这些小孩,有的是中央领导同志的,有的是正浴血抗日疆场的前线指战员的,有的是组织上通过种种办法帮助找回的革命烈士的遗孤。 当时作为过渡办法,许多小孩都寄养在老百姓的家中。但老乡们自己生活就很艰苦,加上不懂得科学喂养,卫生条件又差,不仅对孩子的成长极为不利。不少小娃娃还由此夭折了。有次傅连暲夫人陈真仁去看寄在老乡家的大女儿傅维芳,回来后把衣服随便一抖,竟抖落出许多虱子。
