With the implementation of our population control and family planning policy, the number of only children has been increasing. Only-child families now account for more than a quarter of China’s family of couples of childbearing age and will become the mainstay of the family of couples of childbearing age by the end of this century. According to the information provided by relevant departments, about 10 million single-child children are born each year throughout the country, with a marked increase in the proportion of children and adolescents.
