磁粉是磁粉离合器和制动器(均写为MPC)中传递功率的球形颗粒介质。根据MPC工作间隙大小,磁粉颗粒直径为数微米至数百微米。根据MPC的工作特性,要求磁粉具有良好的球形性,高的松装密度和磁性能(如高的磁感应强度B和导磁率μ_o、μ_m低的矫顽力H_c和剩磁B_r),高的响应速度、稳定的力矩特性和高的寿命(抗氧化性、耐磨性和耐热性),此外,还要求磁粉具有良好的制造工艺性和低的生产成本。Cr13不锈钢磁粉系在1975年一机部召开的“MPC和磁粉”攻关会议上提出:为促使民用工业应用MPC发展的需要而研制廉价的不锈钢磁粉。
