儋州古称儋耳,建郡于公元前110年,曾是宋代大文豪苏东坡贬谪讲学之地,是座历经十一朝古郡的文化名城,于1993年撤县建市。儋州,地处海南西部,濒临北部湾,面积3265平方公里,人口83万,海岸线长225公里。儋州凭借自己独特的区位优势和丰富的自然资源,提出以“富民为本,加快发展”为主题,实施建设农业现代化先行市、新兴工业市、海洋渔业强市和建设生态特色旅游区、西部商贸中心区的“三市二区”战略。这是一个持续发展区域经济的重要决策,将会加快富裕、文明、稳定、优美的新儋州建设步伐,以优异的成绩迎接新世纪的到来。一、“三市二区”的主要内涵世纪之交,国际国内经济发展出现了新变化、新特点。国际上,经济全球化进程进一步加快;国内经济又处于一个重要的结构转型期。从区域上看,海南经济运行经过4年多的调整,已步入了良性循环的景气区间;兄弟市县你追我赶,顽强拼搏,奋勇争先。因此,在挑战中把握机遇,超前谋划,是摆在我们面前的重要任务。
