Aquaporins (AQPs) are a group of specific channels that are widely distributed in the prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell membranes to efficiently and selectively transport water molecules. Tumor is the body in a variety of tumorigenic factors under the influence of a local tissue of a cell at the gene level to lose its normal regulation of growth, leading to clonal proliferation and the formation of new biological processes. A variety of metabolism relies on the tumor need water molecules involved, and aquaporins can rapidly and specifically transport water molecules. Recent studies confirm that many high-grade tumors express various AQPs. Therefore, it is a hot topic to study the role of aquaporins in tumor growth, invasion and metastasis. Here’s a brief overview.
