The market research firm of Frost & Sullivan (New York, NY) said that the growth of the U.S. family diagnostic test market will continue to be strong for the next four years. However, the change in technology will be gradual rather than dramatic, and there will be no significant changes in the major market segments until 1991. F&S predicts that the overall growth of the US home diagnosis market in 1991 will be an average of 13-15%, reaching $880 million. The trial of diabetes will still be an important part, totaling about 38% of sales. F&S also predicts that chemical-based tests will surpass the instrumentation and design as an important technology category.
