Tea polyphenols are an antioxidant extracted from tea leaves and reportedly have the effects of scavenging free radicals, preventing mutations, and preventing cancer. In order to study whether it also protects against radiation damage, we established a model in which the plasmid PBR322 DNA was used in three configurations (covalently closed loop SC, open loop OC, and linear molecule L) and DNA was detected by agarose gel electrophoresis. The method of chain fragmentation was used to determine the protective effect of tea polyphenols on DNA strand breaks induced by strontium-line irradiation.
