The microprocessor is the heart of the PC and determines the performance and features of the PC to a large extent. Therefore, the replacement of the microprocessor means the replacement of the PC. The current 150 MHz Pentium used in mainstream PC models has an integer number computing performance of 6.08 SPECint 95 and floating-point arithmetic performance of 5.41 SPECfp 95 (see the text on the next page).
