儒家思想一直以来是古代中国多个朝代的正统思想,涵盖中国的哲学,政治,军事,道德等多个领域,对中国人的影响更是根深蒂固。而《论语》正是儒家思想的典范,是儒家思想和中国传统文化的经典体现。因此,其翻译也是中外文化交流的重要内容。本文选择的是辜鸿铭的译本和安乐哲,罗斯文的合译本。并试图从目的论出发,通过他们在对《论语》中关键词的英译中所采取的不同策略进行对比分析,来说明不同的译者由于其文化背景,所采用的翻译策略有差别,特别是其翻译目的和目标读者的不同也会引起译文具有不同的特色。因此,在中国文化英译中,译者要对目标读者做一深入的调查分析,从而确立有针对性的翻译策略。
Confucianism has always been the orthodox thought of many dynasties in ancient China, covering many areas of China’s philosophy, politics, military affairs and ethics. Its influence on the Chinese people is even more profound. The Analects of Confucius is a model of Confucianism and a classic example of Confucianism and Chinese traditional culture. Therefore, its translation is also an important part of cultural exchange between China and foreign countries. This article chooses Ku Hong-ming’s translation and An Le Zhe, Rose’s translation of this. And from the perspective of Skopostheorie, through their contrastive analysis of the different strategies adopted in the English translation of key words in The Analects, it shows that different translators have different translation strategies because of their cultural backgrounds, especially The difference between the purpose of translation and the target audience can also cause the translation to have different characteristics. Therefore, in the process of English translation of Chinese culture, the translator should make an in-depth investigation and analysis of the target audience to establish a targeted translation strategy.
