案头这本32开、石印、线装的《中华国难教育读本》(以下简称“读本”),经历了65年漫长岁月,册页泛黄,字迹漫漶,但它丰富的内容,深邃的意境,字里行间闪烁着的爱国主义思想光彩,仍熠熠生辉,使人肃然起敬.看到这个“读本”,使我想起它的编纂者、恩师焦卓然先生.(一)卓然先生字立忱,山西新绛县泉掌乡史家庄(今名朝阳庄)人,清光绪六年(1880)生,幼入私塾,勤奋刻苦,好学善悟,为清代末科秀才.22岁考入山西省优级师范学堂,毕业后例授举人(当时称“洋举人”).之后即一直供职教育界,历任兰州中山大学教师、运城省立二中和菁花中学教师、新绛绛垣中学教师、新绛县教育会长、《新绛县志》纂修.他关心爱护青年,诲人不倦,循循善诱,在师生中、在教育界享有崇高威望.1933年,因不满反动当局对学校的统治,愤而隐居山林,上了乡宁县云邱山.不久又在当地八宝宫的乡宁县三高任高年级国文、历史教师,直至1938年3月日寇进
