According to the 2001 annual statistics of world oil production and oil and gas reserves released by the US magazine Oil and Gas, the global crude oil and condensate production in 2001 was 3.18 billion tons, down 5% from 3.36 billion tons the previous year. The top 5 countries followed by Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United States, China and Norway. Among them, the output of Russia and China increased by 9% and 1.8% respectively. Russia replaced Saudi Arabia by the second place of last year to become the world’s largest oil producer, while China also rose from the fifth place of last year to the fourth place. Other three countries have different levels of decline in output.
