南京朝天宫虽定名于明代,但其所处冶山之名尚早于其地宫观之建。南京本地的文史专家常以冶山道院与朝天宫互称,认为朝天宫实质上有“地处冶山的道院”的性质。虽然这一提法与今日城市地理中两个地名的大致位置有相符之处,但在朝天宫发展的过程中,两者所指代的宫观范围和发展历程都存在差异。厘清朝天宫和冶山道院之间的关系,对了解今日城市中这两个活地名的由来,以及回溯冶山范围内明清道观发展历史均将有所帮助。
