The development of the Tumen River region is a grand project initiated by the United Nations Development Program and also a major project for our country’s key planning and implementation. On September 24, 1991, at the World News Center headquarters in New York, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) held a press conference to announce to the world an extra large investment of 30 billion U.S. dollars to benefit 300 million people in Northeast Asia Development Project - Magnificent Project for Development in Tumen River Delta Area. Since the joint development of the Tumen River Regional Cooperation and Development Project by China, Russia, North Korea, South Korea and Mongolia in 1992, the cooperation and development in the Tumen River region has made remarkable achievements.
