Adolf Menzel, a leading German great modernist painter, was born in Breslau, Germany, in 1815. He grew up in love with painting, as a teenager, systematically studied painting with the father of a stone printer in Berlin. For various reasons, he never went to Academy of Fine Arts, nor did he worship any artist as a teacher. However, this diligent, talented painter took his keen eyes to nature and drew pictures of landscapes, flowers, trees, and wilderness there; he went deep into the lives of workers and peasants, painted scenes of their labor, and ordinary Life, poor people. He is extremely natural and vivid to draw the quiet pastoral scenery, boiling work scenes. He painted the workers, the peasants are by no means a pretending gesture, but a true portrayal of their hard work in factories or fields.
