科赫试图以真理、时间、自由三个概念为基础,构建一个宏大的综合理论体系。他相信,这三个概念之间有一种深刻的内在关联--时间的结构(过去、现在、未来)、自由的结构(三种特性:独立于自然法则、不可证伪的自由法则和替代性选择)和真理的三个层面(实用主义、现实主义和开放性)能够并且必须连接起来。在一个综合的结构里,人们才能真正理解真理是什么,自由是什么,时间之箭是怎么回事。该著紧扣哲学史的脉络,综合了希腊哲学、近代哲学、德国古典哲学、现象学和语言分析哲学,是作者治学30年的结晶。
