２月１日，中共中央、国务院在北京隆重举行国家科学技术奖励大会。中国科学院院士、固体物理学家黄昆和中国科学院院士、中国工程院院士、计算机应用专家王选荣获２００１年度国家最高科学技术奖。此外，自然科学、技术发明和科技进步三大奖共有２２３个获奖项目，有２０６７人获奖。国家主席江泽民出度大会并为获奖代表颁奖。国务院总理朱镕基在大会上讲话。国务院副总理李岚清宣读了《国务院关于２００１年度国家科学技术奖励的决定》。中共中央政治局常委、国家副主席胡锦涛主持了大会。王选和黄昆各获得５００万元人民币的奖金。我国从２０００年起，设立国家最高科学技术奖，以国家的名义对为科学技术发展作出杰出贡献的科学家给予最高荣誉奖励。
On February 1, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council held a grand award ceremony for state science and technology in Beijing. Chinese Academy of Sciences, Solid State Physicist Huang Kun and Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, computer application expert Wang election won the 2001 State Supreme Science and Technology Award. In addition, a total of 223 awards were awarded to the three awards of natural sciences, technological inventions and technological progress, with 2067 prizes awarded. President Jiang Zemin took the conference and presented awards to the winners. Premier Zhu Rongji addressed the conference. Vice Premier Li Lanqing read out the State Council's Decision on National Science and Technology Awards for 2001. Hu Jintao, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the State Council, presided over the meeting. Wang Xuan and Huang Kun each won a bonus of 5 million yuan. Since 2000, China has set the national highest science and technology award and awarded the highest honor award to scientists who made outstanding contributions to the development of science and technology in the name of the country.
