世界贸易组织135个成员的代表17日在瑞士日内瓦总部聚会,决定将于明年1月重新恢复有关启动新一轮多边贸易的谈判。另外,世贸组织总务委员会同意接纳约旦加入世贸组织,成为第136个成员。世贸组织发言人基思·罗克韦尔说,总务委员会还通过了世贸组织2000年财政预算,数额为1.277亿瑞士法郎,比去年增加了4.5％。罗克韦尔说,考虑到发展中国家担心从明年1月1日起全面执行的保护知识产权等协议有一定难度,发达国家保证在近期内不会因此与发展中国家发生争论。
Representatives of 135 members of the World Trade Organization gathered at the Geneva headquarters in Switzerland on the 17th and decided to resume the negotiations on the start of the new round of multilateral trade in January next year. In addition, the WTO General Committee agreed to accept Jordan’s accession to the WTO as the 136th member. WTO spokesman Keith Rockwell said the General Committee also approved the 2000 budget of the WTO amounting to 127.7 million Swiss francs, an increase of 4.5% over last year. Rockwell said the developed countries promised not to argue with developing countries in the near future given the difficulty of developing countries fearing that they would implement the agreement on intellectual property rights fully implemented from January 1 next year.
