James Joyce is an advocate of Western literary reform in the 20th century and a spokesman for modernism. His legacy left us far beyond his four novels. Joyce’s success is that he challenged the older generation’s traditional style and reconstructed the novel’s form. However, according to Chinese scholars, his spiritual heritage is not only inferior to his literary achievements, but also as profound as his novels. In commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the birth of Bloom Day, this paper examines Joyce ’s achievements and heritage from the perspective of a Chinese scholar and reveals his enlightenment on Chinese scholars.
