Among the stars of French literature in the nineteenth century, Prospeme-Merimee (1803-1870) is a unique figure. His works are as magnificent as those of Balzac, Flaubert, and Stendhal; however, he is not satisfied with the clash of feudalism with the liberation of the bourgeois individuality and the original humanistic nature of the bourgeoisie Opposition to the revelation, today is still worth our deep consideration. He is himself called critical realist in his creative thinking; however, the exoticism and legend he describes are full of romance. He has often been left out by some literary historians; however, his plot’s twists and turns and its anecdote have a very broad readership. His writings are not abundant; however, less than twenty have given him an immortal world reputation. Merimee, the son of a painter with bourgeois freedom, may not be a great writer; but he is a well-known writer with a worldwide reputation. Mentioning Meridian, one would first think of his novella Carmen, remembering that wild “tooth whiter than the almonds out of the shell,” and “the hair glittering like a crow’s wing”
