华山参系茄科植物(Physochlaina infun-dibularis)之根。又名华山人参,秦参、红参,主产于陕西华山,秦岭山脉,山西中条山,河南沁阳等地,系民间药,其根具有一定滋补强壮、祛风散寒、健脾胃等效用。当地群众常误当人参服用,临床证明对虚寒症有效。多用于神经衰弱、精神分裂症、头痛、胃脘痛、失眠、定喘止汗等。有效成份据近人研究主要为阿托品类生物硷。此外,还含有多种其他生物硷。华山参是一种毒性较强的中草药,临床上一般炮制后使用。据调查华山参的炮制方法较多,有蒸法,煮法,麦冬、山栀、黄连、冰糖、甘草共煮法等等,我们采用甘草、麦冬水煮法。
