When Newton was very young, his father died. Little Newton was shy,he often played alone. When he was a primary school student in Grantham,he lived in Uncle Clark’s home. At that time, his academic performance was very poor, and some naughty classmates often bullied him. But,little Newton was fascinated about the hand-made. So Uncle Clark decided to teach him. One day,he gave Newton a book named “The secrets of nature and skill”.
Uncle Clark:Newton,There is a gift for you.
Newton:Really,uncle? That’s wonderful!
Uncle Clark:Look! This is not an ordinary book. It tells a lot of interesting secrets of nature and science. It will open your eyes.
Newton:Thank you very much, uncle. I really like this gift.
Uncle Clark:I’m glad you like it. I hope it will help you.
This book greatly stimulated(刺激,鼓舞) his desire to explore the mysteries of nature. One day,he made a small windmill(風车). He carried it in his hand.
Newton:I’d like to show the windmill to my classmates.
It attracted a lot of children, and they watched and praised.
Classmate A:Amazing! How amazing!
Classmate B:I can’t imagine you could make such a delicate thing.
Classmate C:Is this really what you did?
Classmate D:It is so interesting, you are so smart.
Just as the students were talking about it,a student with good scores came over. He snatched the windmill.
Classmate E:You can only be a carpenter(木匠). Do you know why windmill can turn?
It was really difficult for Newton. He couldn’t answer it. The student smashed(砸) the windmill.
Classmate E:Idiot, you can’t answer it. See if your windmill can turn?
Little Newton was angry. He shook his fist(拳头) and tried his best to fight. From then on,little Newton was no longer a coward(懦夫). He vowed to himself: Newton:I must study hard and surpass the little bully. So he won’t look down upon me!
Newton always studied hard in class and finished homework
carefully after class. He never did his hand-make until he finished his homework. Little Newton’s performance improved so quickly that he jumped into the top of the class.
How time flies! Newton was a middle school student in Grantham when he was 12 years old.
Newton:These subjects are so boring. I’m not interested in them at all.
Classmate A:Look at him,he is just sitting on his seat all day without saying anything. He must be a fool.
Classmate B:Let’s go and scare(恐嚇) the fool.
面对同学们的嘲讽,小牛顿会作何反应呢?整日沉默寡言的他在思考什么呢?下集精彩继续。
