抗战时期,萧一山的“民族革命史观”得到重大的发展和丰富,集中地体现于他在1943年撰成的名著《清史大纲》一书中。其主要标志,一是总结清代三百年民族革命经历了三个阶段,“天地会肇其端,太平军扬其波,革命党竟其功”;二是明确以鸦片战争作为近代社会剧烈变动的开始,指出中国的主要问题是面临帝国主义列强的野蛮侵略,对中国社会矛盾的特点、革命对象的变化等作了深刻阐释,并论述民族革命的一贯性和连环性。抗战时期,萧一山历史观的飞跃具有重要的学术价值,并且对于神圣的抗战事业产生了积极的鼓舞作用。
