Pine wood nematode (Bursaphelenchus lignicolus Mamiya et Kiyohara) was first found in dead Japanese pine trees. It is reported that there are about 20 recorded species of the genus Nematode, and the parasitic phenomenon in the trunk is the first discovery. Pine wilt disease is currently a devastating pine disease in Japan, and since 1971, the annual wilt losses have been above 1 million cubic meters.
