长沙至昆明客运专线(以下简称长昆客专)湖南段线路自湖南省长沙市的长沙南站(不含)始,止于湘黔省界的新晃西站正线全长416km。其中路基长度70.1km,占正线长度的16.85%;桥梁152.2km,隧道193.7km,桥隧比例为83.15%,属于典型的山区铁路。牵引变电所所址的选址与城市规划、市政配套及电力系统有多处接口,既要考虑城市美观,又要安全可靠、经济实用。因地制宜合理布置山区铁路牵引牵引变电所所址,确保技术经济可行。
