罗竹风同志曾是《汉语大词典》的主编,当时参与这部大词典编写工作的有华东五省一市的许多专家。浙江的于冠西也因参与这部词典的编纂出版工作而和罗老相识相知。冠西同志在《难忘的风范——罗竹风同志逝世周年祭》一文中讲了罗老生前的两件小事:一件是70年代末的一个冬天,罗老由上海到杭州为词典搜罗编纂人才,和冠西初次见面。那年冬天很冷,罗老住在一家旅馆的一间不见阳光的房间里,既无暖气,又无火盆。他裹着一件很旧的棉大衣和冠西谈话,不断流着清鼻涕。冠西看了很过意不去,想通过有关方面替他另找个住处。
