马克昌,1926年8月出生于河南西华县,1950年从武汉大学法律系毕业并留校,在武汉大学任教60余年,担任武汉大学人文社会科学资深教授(终身教授)、博士生导师,兼任中国法学会刑法学研究会名誉会长、中国法学会董必武法律思想研究会副会长、最高人民法院特邀咨询员等职。马克昌是新中国刑法学的开拓者和奠基人之一,获评湖北省首届“荆楚社科名家”。1980年受全国人大常委会法制委员会的邀请,参加对“林彪、江青反革命集团案”起诉书的讨论修改,随后受司法部的委派,担任“两案”被告人吴法宪的辩护律师;并曾担任湖北省律师协会副会长。
