The separation and photometric determination of thallium and malachite green from aqueous solution of Xisan were studied. These results are summarized as follows: (1) Thallium and malachite green are formed as benzene-extracted blue-purple complexes in dilute aqueous solutions with maximum absorption at 650 nm. (2) Complex composition Tlcl_4 ~ - · R ~ + (R ~ + for malachite green): g fraction extinction coefficient Σ_ (650) = 84 × 10 ~ 4; sensitivity of 0.0025 μg / cm ~ Extraction equilibrium constant of 4 × 10 ~ 5; 0-35 micrograms in 10ml of benzene obey Beer’s law; a large number of general anion and cation without interference. (3) This Law has been successfully applied to the determination of thallium in various metallurgical intermediates, indium, cadmium and soot.
