[Associated Press, Boston, August 5, 1981] Doctors said it is possible to predict which patients may have blood clots in the heart with a trial that may prevent complications and deaths in some patients with heart attacks. Blood-thinning medicines prevent blood clots that develop after a heart attack. However, since blood clots occur in about 10% of heart-stroke-prone patients, physicians are reluctant to use the drug for all heart-stroke patients to avoid possible side effects.
