邵阳地区栽培温州蜜柑约有四十年的历史。解放以来,在毛主席革命路线指引下,发展很快,全地区现有柑桔八万多亩,其中温州蜜柑约占90％,产量也有较大幅度增加,1972年产柑桔十六万多担,已成为我省温州蜜柑主要商品基地之一。但是,由于品种较多,变异内容丰富,存在成熟期过于集中,特别是早熟品种目前缺少,品种品系比较混杂,品质良莠不齐,远不能适应柑桔生产的发展和外销出口的需要。
