春秋时兴起的民间音乐,以郑、卫地域的民歌为代表,史称“郑卫之音”。它是在夏商祭祀乐舞和宴乐的基础上发展起来的,经过夏商萌芽期、郑卫地域特色形成期、繁荣发展期、兴盛远播期这四个发展阶段而成为先秦时期的重要文化潮流。郑卫之音已经打破了雅正之规,呈现出如下特色:音乐与内容相匹配,五声音阶细腻热烈,音乐节奏变化繁复,音乐技巧复杂多变,声调高亢激昂,多含哀怨忧愁,常伴舞蹈表演。儒家对郑卫之音持批判态度,这种批判和对抗,造成了中国历史上雅俗文化的冲突。
