The formation mechanism of the geometrical isomers of conjugated linoleic acid was discussed and the relationship between the formed angle and the generated heat of 9c, 11cCLA to 9c, 11tCLA was calculated by semi-empirical quantum chemical method AM1. The configuration of the non-conjugated double bond, the reaction temperature and the reaction time determine the contents of various geometric isomers of CLA in the product.
