Alice Randal’s Gone with the Wind played a bold parody of Margaret Mitchell’s classic Gone with the Wind, breaking the southern myth constructed by Michelle’s text and also provoking a Field of intellectual property disputes. However, “Gone with the Wind” is not an unusual parody. Its doubts about the reproduction of the history of slave-affair, the concern about the construction of black women’s identity and the reinterpretation of the meaning of freedom are enough to show that it is a typical contemporary new slave narrative text. Although Randal’s critique of consciousness is strong, whether the text can fulfill the potential of his cultural criticism can give the reader some “liberation” effect that some scholars expect is a more controversial issue.
