Taking steps to ensure quality early in design can speed up convergence and avoid making failed silicon. The cost of SoC (system on a chip) design continues to soar, the market window is shrinking, and the complexity of the design has been exponentially increasing. These challenges are just one of the issues facing SoC designers. To prevent major problems, designers must ensure that the SoC implements design convergence, including meeting certain important goals such as performance, power consumption, and area. However, the goals of design convergence often conflict. Designers must constantly compromise on various factors to ensure that the design is within the requirements of the end-user application.
