九一八事变后,中国民众对于普遍希望国联能够主持正义。但是,这种一厢情愿的愿望很快在事实的教育下转变为深刻的失望和不满。《申报》所反映出来的中国舆论对于国联的态度变化表明国人对国联的认识经历了一个从寄予希望到失望,乃至批评其为无能并彻底失望的过程。这种痛苦的认识过程说明了人们对国联本质认识的深化,也反映出国人逐步认识到中国的出路必须依靠自己的奋斗这样一个简单的道理。
After the September 18 Incident, the Chinese people generally hope that the League of Nations can preside justice. However, this wishful wish soon turned into a deep disappointment and dissatisfaction with factual education. The change of attitude of the Chinese public opinion reflected in the “Declaration” of the League of Nations shows that people’s understanding of the League of Nations has gone from hope to disappointment, and even criticized it as incompetent and thoroughly disappointed. This painful process of understanding illustrates the deepening of people’s understanding of the essence of the League. It also reflects the simple truth that people gradually realize that their way out must rely on their own struggles.
