The United States of America Cancer News 34 (3) (1980) p. 17 Report: Three scientists who received the 1980 General Motors Cancer Research Foundation grant for their outstanding contributions to cancer prevention and treatment also received the American Cancer Society National Award. The discovery by Elwood Jensen, director of Ben May Cancer Research Experiments at the University of Chicago, that estrogen receptor protein in breast cancer lays the foundation for the identification of hormone-sensitive oncology tests. Currently, physicians have the option of taking special hormones or chemotherapy to control cancer. Jensen received the National Cancer Society Annual Medal in 1976 and now enjoys research grants from the Society.
