The authors observed changes in gingival microvessels in diabetic and nondiabetic patients by light and electron microscopy and found thickening of the gingival vascular wall and endothelial cell swelling in diabetic patients and lumen occlusion in some cases; degeneration of the plasma cells in gingival tissues and occasionally Rousseau's body.
