Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a new process that uses lasers to make ceramic powders for the production of ceramic parts. The process is less expensive than traditional processes and therefore is one of the most economically feasible laser applications for large-scale chemical processing. Moreover, the uniform size of the powder particles produced by this process produces harder, more reliable ceramics that will improve the energy system, change the way multilayer substrates are designed, and replace the metal strategic materials currently imported from abroad. Ceramic is a large family of inorganic, non-metallic materials. Its wide range of applications, from tableware to spacecraft tiles,
