文化研究是在20世纪末期成为席卷全球的一种新的文论研究方法,它重视经典与通俗,精英文化与大众文化,文本研究与传媒研究之间的复杂关系。该学派在英国崛起后,对英国的大众传播理论的研究产生了深刻的影响。霍加特是英国文化研究的代表人物,对英国的大众文化研究特别关注。霍加特以带有浓厚自传色彩的方式写作《文化的用途》,将文学研究拓展到了报纸、杂志、流行音乐等等领域,并论述了这些领域与个人日常生活结构的相互关系。
In the late 20th century, cultural studies became a new approach to literary theory that swept the world. It emphasizes the complex relationship between classic and popular, elite and popular culture, textual research and media studies. After the rise of Britain, the school had a profound impact on the study of British mass communication theory. Hogatt is a representative of British cultural studies, paying particular attention to British popular culture research. Hogatt writes “The Use of Culture” with a strong autobiographical style, extending literary research to the fields of newspapers, magazines, pop music and the like, and discusses the interrelationship between these fields and the structure of daily life of individuals.
