INTRODUCTIONThe control of sulfur dioxide emissions from combustion of coal is very important in environment protection.Wet limestone scrubbing is the most common flue gas desulfurization (FGD) process for controling sulfur dioxide emissions from combustion of coal. This process requires a holding tank where CaSO3 and CaSO4 are crystallized and the make-up CaSO3 is dissolved.Forced oxidation of the sulfite in the holding tank solves the main problem of the disposal of the solid by-product, which is a sludge composed of calcium sulfite and sulfate.
